Reading ProgramLanguage Blogs
Go reading
The Go sources to read, in the order the project weeks need them.
Go is your primary language. Everything in Ledgerline, Logsmith and Shiplane is written in it, so this page gets most of your language reading.
Start with the four docs. Read them once, in weeks 2 to 6, then live in the rotating blogs.
Learn-first docs
- Effective Go: idioms and style, straight from the language team.
- Go Proverbs: 19 design principles on one screen.
- The Go Blog index: every official post, searchable.
- A Guide to the Go Garbage Collector: the official GC tuning doc, and a companion to the Ardan series.
Canonical articles
- Garbage Collection in Go, Part I: Semantics from Ardan Labs.
- Garbage Collection in Go, Part III: GC Pacing.
- Dave Cheney: Practical Go.
- Sameer Ajmani: Advanced Go Concurrency Patterns.
- Uber Go Style Guide.
Lint your project 1 code against the Uber guide in its week.
Rotating blogs
- Ardan Labs blog: Go internals, scheduling, systems.
- Three Dots Labs, with the clean architecture tag and the go tag: the DDD in Go posture Ledgerline and Logsmith want.
- Julia Evans: Linux and debugging, for when a Go mistake sends you under the hood.
- Awesome Go: the library discovery list.
When to read what
- Weeks 2 to 6: the four learn-first docs, one pass each, in the order listed.
- Week 8: the Uber Go Style Guide, then check Logsmith code against it.
- Weeks 9 to 11: Ardan GC Part I, then Part III, with the GC guide open beside them.
- Week 13: books and reading order for the next phase.
Read once, then rotate
The docs are a one-time pass. Once they are done, most slots go to the rotating blogs, plus whatever the current sprint forces you to look up.
